Regeneration City Blues talk – Jane Palm-Gold with special guest, Fiona Cartledge

I was really pleased to present some of my Regeneration City Blues exhibition research to an audience at Leeds College of Art last Monday. Here I am talking about Kensington Market (see photo below)!

I also spoke about Top Gear from Tin Pan Alley, a legendary guitar and amp shop that Sid Bishop managed in the 70s (the very first instrument retail shop in Denmark Street) and I was also able to show a photo of the van that toured the UK on the Ziggy Stardust tour, courtesy of Mr. Peter Hince!  I presented rare late 80s photos of Goth regulars from the Intrepid Fox in Soho and my research on The Roxy Club too.

After I spoke, Fiona Cartledge gave a wonderful talk on her infamous London shop, Sign of the Times – the slides were amazing! These featured a lot of people on the rave scene in the ’90s who are pretty illustrious now. Fiona talked about her career and how she initially came to work at Kensington Market – and the beginnings of Sign of the Times

There’s a great interview with Fiona here at CharliePorter.net.
